I am Dr Gareth Jowett, an HCPC Registered Sport and Exercise Psychologist and Chartered Psychologist (CPsychol). My practice is dedicated to helping competitive endurance athletes with psychology that underpins sustainable high-class performance and mental well-being.

In the high-pressure world of elite endurance, I advocate for psychology that moves with you. My approach integrates Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) principles to help athletes shift from rigid, "all-or-nothing" thinking toward a flexible pursuit of excellence.

Evidence-Informed Support

As an active researcher and senior lecturer, my practice is grounded in my published work on perfectionism, motivation, and burnout. I use ACT as a framework to transform common elite challenges into opportunities for growth. My aims are to help you to:

  • Enhance Psychological Flexibility: Developing the ability to stay present and focused on task-relevant cues, even during the intense physical and mental discomfort of long-form endurance events.

  • Reduce Rigid Thinking: Moving away from the "perfectionism trap" and all-or-nothing mindset that often triggers performance anxiety and burnout.

  • Promote Value-Driven Growth: Clarifying your core values to ensure your "why" remains strong during gruelling training blocks, shifting the focus from avoiding failure to actively pursuing excellence.

A Dedicated, Independent Partnership

While I support athletes within high-performance pathways, I also maintain a private, independent practice. This allows me to offer a truly athlete-centred partnership—one that is entirely focused on your individual growth and long-term wellbeing, away from the external performance mandates or institutional targets of governing bodies.

Professional Standards & Global Reach

I am committed to the highest global ethical standards in sport psychology. In addition to being HCPC registered, I am a proud member of:

  • The British Psychological Society (BPS)

  • The International Society of Sport Psychology (ISSP)

  • The Chartered Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences (CASES)

This ensures that the support I provide is evidence-based, strictly confidential, and delivered with the integrity required for elite-level sport. I am fully insured and hold an enhanced DBS check.
