Supporting Your Child’s Sporting Journey: How Psychology Can Help

As a parent, you want the best for your child—on and off the field. Whether they’re chasing a personal best, stepping up to a new level, preparing for a major competition, or recovering from a setback, their mindset plays a crucial role in how they experience and perform in their sport.

But sometimes, even the most talented and dedicated young athletes face challenges that can affect their confidence, motivation, and enjoyment.

Have you noticed any of the following in your child?

  • Have they lost some of the enjoyment they once had for their sport?

  • Are they finding it difficult to adjust to a new team, coach, or competitive level?

  • Do they seem more anxious or frustrated than usual before or after training or competition?

  • Are they struggling to bounce back from an injury or a dip in form?

  • Do they put a lot of pressure on themselves to be perfect or fear making mistakes?

If any of these resonate, psychological support could make a meaningful difference.

Support That Fits Around Training and Family Life

As a parent myself, I understand the challenges of balancing sport, school, and family commitments. That’s why I offer psychological support that is flexible, collaborative, and designed to fit around you and your child’s schedule and needs.

Whether it’s a one-off session before a key event or ongoing support throughout a season, I work in partnership with you and your child to provide tailored, meaningful guidance.

Here’s how the process typically works:

  • Initial Parent Call
A conversation between you and me to explore your child’s current situation, challenges, and goals—from your perspective.

  • Introductory Meeting
A joint session with you, your child, and me to build rapport and shape the support around their specific needs.

  • Confidential One-to-One Sessions
Regular sessions with your child, either in person or online. These are confidential to create a safe space for them to explore thoughts, feelings, and strategies.

  • Ongoing Collaboration
Periodic check-ins with you to ensure the support remains aligned with your child’s development, and to discuss any broader themes or concerns.
